Budget in Any Currency: Multi-Currency Support in EnvelopeBudget
Pick your country, and EnvelopeBudget formats every amount the way you expect: symbol, decimals, separators, and placement. Each budget keeps its own currency settings.

Same idea, four very different ways of writing it down. If your budgeting app only speaks one of them, every balance looks slightly wrong, and a budget you don't trust at a glance is a budget you stop opening.
EnvelopeBudget now applies your currency settings across the app, and adds a country drop-down to set them up in one step.
Pick a country, get the right format
Open Budget Settings and choose a currency from the drop-down. EnvelopeBudget fills in the details for you:
- Currency ISO code (USD, EUR, GBP, and so on)
- Currency symbol
- Decimal digits, because not every currency uses two
- Decimal separator and group separator
- Symbol before amount or after it
- Display symbol, in case you'd rather see plain numbers
A live Preview shows exactly how an amount will look before you save.
Every field is still yours to change
The drop-down is a starting point, not a cage. If your bank writes amounts differently, or you want a symbol hidden, adjust any field by hand. The preview updates as you go.
Settings now take effect everywhere
These fields were already on the settings page, but they weren't being applied. Now they are. Balances, envelope amounts, and transactions all follow the format you choose, so what you see in the app matches how you actually read money.
Each budget has its own currency
Currency is a per-budget setting. That's handy if you:
- Run a household budget in one currency and a business or side project in another
- Share a budget with family abroad
- Live overseas and keep a separate budget for your home country
- Are a digital nomad who wants a fresh budget for a long stay in a new country (see our digital nomad guide)
Changing one budget's settings never touches another.
One note on scope: a budget uses one currency at a time. These settings control how amounts are displayed and entered; EnvelopeBudget doesn't convert between currencies or fetch exchange rates.
How to set it up
- Open Budget Settings for the budget you want to change.
- Choose your currency from the drop-down.
- Check the Preview and tweak any field if needed.
- Click Save Settings.
