Envelope Budget Mobile?

by Dustin Davis, News, 2 Comments

I’ve been sitting on a tool for a while that I haven’t told anyone about. It’s a very simplified mobile version of EnvelopeBudget.com.

From the beginning I wanted Envelope Budget to be responsive so it would work on any device. While responsive works OK, a dedicated mobile experience is better. While I don’t really have a mobile app per se, I’ve been working on something you may find helpful in its early form.

Background Story

Let’s be honest, my wife never logs into EnvelopeBudget.com. I’m the “budget guy” in our home. But she has been making a better effort to stay on budget. So I have been making a better effort to keep her up to date on all envelope balances.

So I wrote this very simple app that she can pull up on her iPhone and see just the balances of the envelopes she is interested in. She can also add uncleared transactions while on the go.

How it Works

Go to https://m.envelopebudget.com and log in with your credentials. If you are on your mobile device, you can add this app to your home screen. I plan to wrap this in app so you can download it in the Apple app store and on Google Play for Android devices.

When you are logged in for the first time you will be prompted to go to the Envelopes Tab and select the envelopes you want to monitor. All non-archived envelopes are listed in the Envleopes tab. Simply click on the ones you want to monitor and the radio button will highlight.

Then go to the Wallet tab to see these envelope balances. Tap on an Envelope in the Wallet tab and you will see the most recent transactions in that envelope. Here you can also add a new transactions to that Envelope.

There is also a Settings tab, but the the only thing there right now is a Log Out button.

That’s about it for now. I know really simple, but it can be amazingly useful to have your envelope balances on the go.
